VCCDC Celebrates 4th Annual Awards Ceremony, “Leading People Home”

On Thursday, October 10, 2024, VCCDC was honored to host its 4th Annual Awards Ceremony, "Leading People Home," at the Spanish Hills Club in Camarillo. This special event recognized the outstanding achievements of four individuals and one organization whose dedication and leadership have transformed lives through community partnerships, visionary leadership, and the creation and affordability of homeownership.

This year’s ceremony celebrated community leaders whose values align with VCCDC’s mission to strengthen and sustain vibrant communities by empowering individuals and families to build wealth through education and homeownership. The 2024 VCCDC Award recipients, recognized for their exceptional contributions, are as follows:

  • Rodney Fernandez Founder’s Award for Excellence in Visionary Leadership
    Presented to Monica White, President and CEO of Food Share.

  • Michael McGuire Award for Excellence in Community Partnership
    Presented to Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) of Oxnard.

  • Ernest Baskette, Jr. Award for Excellence in Community Support
    Presented to Jose Vega, Counselor, Oxnard College.

  • Lynn L. Jacobs Award for Excellence in Lifetime Leadership
    Presented to Oxnard Mayor John Zaragoza.

  • Carmen Ramirez Award for Excellence in Advocacy and Community Impact
    Presented to Kevin Stein, Chief of Legal and Strategy, Rise Economy.

A special highlight of the evening was an inspiring presentation from Adrianne Crossley, one of VCCDC's newest homebuyers, who shared her personal journey to homeownership, offering a powerful reminder of the profound impact that homeownership can have on a family’s future. The event was further enriched by an insightful keynote address from Gustavo Velasquez, Director of the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
