Debbie's Journey to Homeownership
“What's so wonderful about having a home that's mine is that I have a place for my kids when they come home...Also, when I rented I could only have one dog and now I want three dogs and I'm going to have that. I'll be here forever and I know that it's my permanent address...”
After her divorce, Debbie faced the daunting challenge of moving back to California and buying a home. For nearly five years, she explored her options, but the state’s high cost of living eventually became overwhelming, and she put her dream on hold.
After a year-long pause, Debbie discovered VCCDC. Together with Alex and the Lending team they created a clear, actionable plan focused on securing permanent employment, keeping her credit in excellent standing, and strengthening her finances. With their continued support, and her own determination, Debbie was able to access $13,000 in assistance from the State of California CalHFA program and reached her goal of becoming a homeowner at the end of 2024.
Debbie is loving the stability and freedom of having a place to call her own. She’s built a cozy, welcoming home where her kids, Courtney and Cameron, can visit. It’s also the perfect hangout for her furry crew, Roxy the Yorkie and Diego, a (feisty) rescue who was returned to the shelter twice but has finally found his forever home with Debbie. And the fun’s not over, Debbie is making room for one more! This June, she’ll be welcoming Bentley, the third pup in her pack.
Debbie’s journey is a powerful reminder of how perseverance, paired with professional support, can unlock the transformative power of homeownership.
Congratulations, Debbie, on your new home! Wishing you countless happy memories and joyful moments in this next chapter!
